THE 2012 NEW YORK FLUTE CLUB COMPETITION

Preliminary and final auditions will be held at the New York Flute Fair, on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, 450 West 37th Street (between 9th and 10th Avenues), New York, NY.

PRIZES

The winners will receive monetary awards and a performance at the Competition Winners Recital in New York on Sunday, April 22, 2012, 5:30 pm, at the Engelman Recital Hall, Baruch Performing Arts Center, 55 Lexington Avenue.

1st Prize: $500
2nd Prize: $300
3rd Prize: $200

In addition to the cash prizes, the club will provide the winners with a stipend to pay for piano accompaniment at the winners’ recital: $200 for the first prize winner, $100 each for the second and third prize winners.

REQUIREMENTS

  • All entrants must be current members or must join the New York Flute Club. If you are not currently a member, a check or money order for $50.00 ($35.00 for full time students) payable to “The New York Flute Club” must accompany the application.

  • The competition fee is $25.00, which will include entrance to the 2012 New York Flute Fair. (This is in addition to the $35.00 or $50.00 above and may be included in the same check.)

  • You must provide and pay for your own accompanist for all stages of the competition.

  • Eligible age is 18-27, and you must not have reached your 28th birthday before April 30, 2012.

  • Winners must be available to perform at the New York Flute Club's Competition Winners Concert, Sunday, April 22, 2011.

  • Required piece: The first movement of Aaron Copland's Duo, to be played from memory, plus another piece of your choice. It is not required to play the piece of your choice from memory. Please be prepared to play with your pianist as needed for at least 8-10 minutes in the preliminary round and at least 10-15 minutes in the final round. Plan to announce your name and selected piece.

  • Be present and prepared to play with your accompanist 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time. Be aware that all rounds are open to the public.

    APPLICATIONS MUST BE POSTMARKED BY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2012. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS.
