THE 2010 NEW YORK FLUTE CLUB COMPETITION

Preliminary and final auditions will be held at the New York Flute Fair, on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at LaGuardia High School, 100 Amsterdam Ave. at 65th St., New York, NY.

PRIZES

The winners will receive monetary awards and a performance at the Competition Winners Recital in New York City at the Yamaha Piano Salon, 689 Fifth Avenue (entrance on 54th Street, between Madison and Fifth Avenues) on Sunday, April 25, 2010.

1st Prize: $500
2nd Prize: $300
3rd Prize: $200

REQUIREMENTS

1.) All entrants must be current members or must join the New York Flute Club. If you are not currently a member, a check or money order for $50.00 ($35.00 for full time students) payable to “The New York Flute Club” must accompany the application.

2.) The competition fee is $25.00, which will include entrance to the 2010 New York Flute Fair. (This is in addition to the $35.00 or $50.00 above and may be included in the same check.)

3.) You must provide and pay for your own accompanist for all stages of the competition.

4.) Eligible age is 18-27, and you must not have reached your 28th birthday before April 30, 2010.

5.) Winners must be available to perform at the New York Flute Club's Young Artist Competition Winners Concert, April 25, 2010.

6.) Required piece: Morceau de Concours by Gabriel Faure, to be played from memory, plus another piece of your choice. It is not required to play the piece of your choice from memory. Please be prepared to play with your pianist as needed for 8-10 minutes in the preliminary round and 10-15 minutes in the final round. Plan to announce your name and selected piece.

7.) Be present and prepared to play with your accompanist at least 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time. Be aware that all rounds are open to the public.

8.) Download the application (PDF) and mail it with your check to Pat Zuber, competition coordinator, at the address below.

APPLICATIONS MUST BE POSTMARKED AND MAILED TO THE ADDRESS BELOW BY SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2010. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS.

2009 NYFC Competition Winners

Congratulations to the following winners of the NYFC Competition, held March 15, 2009, during the annual Flute Fair:

• 1st place- Emi Ferguson, a senior at Juilliard School of Music and student of Carol Wincenc.
  
• 2nd place- Adam Eccleston III, a first-year graduate student at the New England Conservatory of Music and student of Paula Robison.
  
• 3rd place- Gloria Yun, a sophomore at Mannes College of Music and student of Sue Ann Kahn.
• 3rd place- Enrico Sartori, a doctoral candidate at SUNY Stony Brook and student of Carol Wincenc.
  

The winners were featured in recital on Sunday, April 26, 2009.

Past winners: We are in the process of compiling a roster of past winners and their achievements. Past winners are urged to send biographical materials and photos to the Club's archivist for inclusion in the archives and this website.
